The Department of English is one of the first departments to start functioning with the establishment of KSN Government Degree College for Women in 1984.  From the date of its inception, the department has been handling English language classes for the various programmes in BA, BSc and BCom streams offered by the University to which the college is affiliated.  The strength of the department lies in updating its pedagogical strategies and tools and keeping abreast with the initiatives of the department of Higher Education. The faculty provides guidance to the students in pursuing online educational courses offered on online platforms such as SWAYAM and MOOCS.  The main thrust of the department lies in emphasizing the significance of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills which the department offers through activity based teaching and learning process.  With the introduction of the Choice Based Credit System from the academic year 2015-2016, for all the Under Graduate Courses, the department started offering English language course to the students during their three semesters.  For the last five years the department is also handling three Foundation Courses in Communication and Soft Skills for the second, third and fourth semester students.

The department also plays an active role in imparting Communication Skills to the students enrolled in the Certificate Course offered by Jawahar Knowledge Centre.
